3D: From Asset Creation to Projection
How Sony Pictures Imageworks creates an odyssey in three dimensions.
Sony Pictures Imageworks has long been known and admired as a leader in the production of breathtaking films whose visual effects suspend disbelief into dimensions we've not yet experienced. Over the past several years, their fleet of incredible talent and technology have moved us beyond 3D effects into the universe of stereoscopic films, taking us on a rollercoaster ride to the north pole, then into the jaws of a monster house, and now we await the studio's journey into a legend of the past. Rob Engle, Stereographer and Digital Effects Supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks, moderates a panel of artists, technologists and supervisors who take us through the process of transforming 3D assets into stereoscopic adventures. Panelists: Brian Steiner, CG Supervisor; Kenn McDonald, Animation Supervisor; and Layne Friedman, CG Supervisor.
